How many hours a week do you average as a SWE? I read the Glassdoor reviews that WLB has been an issue; how much truth is there to this? SF office if that matters. Current TC: 190k #engineering #software #swe
And went to Facebook? Lol
I do around 50, but could definitely do only 40 if I wanted. All my extra work is self-driven.
Is the work that interesting or u r a workaholic ?
the latter, mostly
Yeah most people are workaholics but noone will call you out if you do what your contract says.
Anecdotal, but the teams I've worked on / with seem to have good balance. I do 40hrs most weeks, sometimes up to 60 if I'm nearing the end of a feature. Databricks generally is impact-oriented; if you're hitting or getting ahead of your targets, nobody's gonna be upset that you're "only" working 40hrs.
People that I know to be stressed tend to be bad managers of their own time / bad at estimating. Mostly juniors. Seniors and above seem to be very balanced, lots with kids too which requires time discipline. But again, all anecdotal, I haven't really followed the company surveys on this.

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I rejected the offer because they were taking managers from Amazon.
I don't know a single manager from Amazon.
