What is up with Databricks outsourcing their phone screens to Karat? I thought they were a good company, but they have now turned me off from ever wanting to interview there. I guess being senior and having multiple Faang offers isnt enough signal to them lol. Talk about missing the enchanted forest for the leetcode binary trees. How about I outsource my job to the Karat interviewer, would that be acceptable?
I quite enjoyed my experience with Karat.
Goal: weed out self-righteous candidates at scale with a relatively small team that has grown and is growing absurdly fast. Mission accomplished. But seriously, we do the equivalent of colonoscopies on candidates, so this is just the first stage of many as we ensure both parties are good fits for each other.
You don’t have the same problems Google does. At this stage, you need engineers who can build things, not memorize Leetcode.
100% agree. Our engineers are way oversubscribed. It's not ideal...
"having multiple faang onsites" was the funniest part of the message!!

I will never interview or work with company which does outsourcing and it may be in future they may outsource my dev work to india or China . Avoid Databricks at any cost if they outsource basic phone screen.
Makes sense Capital One. https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Capital-One-Bangalore-Salaries-EI_IE3736.0,11_IL.12,21_IM1091.htm
🤣
What's the job title of people who work at karat? Interviewer? I would love to take interviews all day and get paid for it 😃
Software Engineer in interviewing, they get paid the same as swes lol. I actually looked them up on LinkedIn and the title is technical interviewer. A lot of them are very junior and have trouble finding work in software, or are burned out engineers. See my post titled “why did you become a Karat interviewer” for answers.
It’s mostly freelancers or folks trying to do a startup that need some extra cash flow. Quite a large population of “digital nomads” that need a remote job so they can travel and focus on their hobbies.
The company has been struggling to acquire talent ever since cloudera slapped them with a legal threat and stopped them from stealing cloudera/hworks talent
Ouch. It certainly doesn’t help that their interview process turns off senior candidates. If they are looking for code monkeys who want to jump through coding hoops, that’s what they will get. I’m not going to do a phone screen unless it’s with senior leadership from the team.
Why so much rage? Did they reject you?
No. I never went through with it
