Received an offer last Thursday from BofA which was considerably lower salary than I would have taken had they offered Hybrid or WFH. Mgr came back today to confirm that it's a status quo company and will be in office 5x a week. At this point taking the role in tech area was not worth it. I was shocked to know that this bank offered no flexibility and expected everyone back by the fall. What a bummer. Coming from a hybrid role with the same tc. BofA was offering 170k TC with potential rsu after first year. Why would anyone work for this place? 10yoe 165tc
You made the right move
I'm happy about my decision 🙂
Location?
TX
I was offered 135k for a BISO role 2 years ago. I was making 150k at the time and they were completely unwilling to negotiate. A few weeks later I got a different offer for low 300k TC. It would have been entirely in office as an IC on a team that didn’t sound like it collaborated much. I still think I made the right decision.
Low 300k? I doubt it. Thats band 3 exec comp range in tech team. You are clearly fake
Low 300k was not at BoA.
Well it’s BofA, not sure what you were expecting
It's a super old school bank. What do you expect.
Work Life Balance. Most teams are super-chill.
Probably, but the fact that they proclaim to be a "tech company" from all the banter I heard. It's ludicrous to be this rigid. Even the giants of tech realized this was a zero sum game. BofA is putting all of it on black at a roulette game. Pretty ballsy, but also foolish "this is how it's always been" mentality.
Lol, "a tech company" 😅
$170K for TX location? That’s high. What was the role and level? Also, the rsus after first year they mentioned are like 200-250 shares depending on the level who are making more than 100K org wide. So it wasn’t special. Anyways you just dodged a bullet.
B4 VP. Given the stock price I didn't even look at RSUs as any benefit. There just were not many selling points
You should accept all lowball offers while staying at your current company and work at the new place till you get fired for not doing anything... disrespect comes with a cost
Lol savage move, but honestly it's a small world. I just said I know it's not your fault to the mgr and HR and said that I can't accept the terms of the offer. I understand it's your bank policy. They told me to think about it. I said I already did. Thanked them for the time and let them spend another 8 weeks looking for another candidate. It's a bank that I will never interview with again. Same goes for GS.

Well if you’re stuck in an office making 120k a year 170k + RSU doesn’t sound too bad. Seeing as it’s triple the median family income, it’s hard to say it’s not a good salary to take home. Are there better out there? Absolutely. Can you get one of them? Maybe, maybe not
Absolutely right. I'm not chasing high TC anymore. I'm comfortable at this point. Just need to balance life out. These companies are going to have tier C and tier B at best talent... especially in tech. But I guess banks just want to maintain status quo.
