Decreasing SWE new grad TC

It seems that the TC for Big N companies has decreased in the last 2-3 years. Is it true, or were people earlier pulling out TCs from their asses because there was no platform like Blind earlier? If true, I am wondering if this is a cyclic thing or is it something to be concerned about? Is it that the "software bubble" is finally bursting? Would love inputs from experienced people who know about new grad salary trends over the past few years. Google in Seattle - 104k. Amazon in Seattle - 108k. MSFT - about the same. Wasn't it higher in the past few years? TC: 0, YOE: 0 :(

2015 my friends in Seattle started with 102 or 104. But stock has quadrupled too. They got around 400$

Would you know why it has remained the same? Also, I hear that the rsu offered have been reduced

Microsoft increases new grads’ base salary by about 1-2K every year typically. “Is that enough?” is a completely different question.

It's 108k for 2019

Amazon kfsrivd Apr 7, 2019

It was 115 in 2017

These are your numbers or from hearsay? If it’s yours, did you negotiate? Were you an intern? I highly doubt that’s TC. Where is the stock grant? Signing bonus?

Nokia yappaa OP Apr 7, 2019

That's just the base pay, from roommate, friends and fellow students I know personally. Also, I've seen posts on leetcode and blind confirming the numbers.

TC hasn't decreased. A couple graduating batches just lucked out . Stocks just grew ridiculously in 2016 and 17. For example, Google used to offer 250 GSU to new grads because stock price was 530ish and this would be 125k-ish. But then stock started going up and it took them a while to adjust GSU grants to be same 120-150k range. Now, they offer $ amounts instead of GSU units to new grads at least.

I see, but then the base is lower compared to previous years as well..

Google ovBk62 Apr 7, 2019

No. Base has been increasing consistently. Do you have any examples to support the claim that it is lower?

Google nlxS44 Apr 7, 2019

Believe it’s been about the same last few years, 155-160k TC not negotiated for new grad not counting signing. Only change is higher base and lower stock.

Nokia yappaa OP Apr 7, 2019

G offering 104k in Seattle. You think the base was lower earlier? I really doubt..

Google nlxS44 Apr 7, 2019

Don’t know about Seattle. MTV it was 116k last year for base. Year before that is was 112k year before that 110k. Was 105k back in 2014/2015. But I agree I think offers are being reduced in general.

Compensation has definitely not gone down. It has gone up quite rapidly.

For new grads? Do you have the past numbers? Thanks

Microsoft gfba68 Apr 7, 2019

Yes, I have the past numbers.
