Is anyone on blind a deep learning researcher/scientist with a huge TC? (like in this nytimes article: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/19/technology/artificial-intelligence-salaries-openai.html) I am a DL scientist with 1 YOE after graduating from a top school. Would be helpful to hear about your background, years of experience, and TC. DM if you want to keep things private. YOE: 1 TC 1.2M / yr. Base: 250k, RSU 950k (publicly traded)
I got > 200K as a new grad. Nowhere close the ones in the article lol
PhD? In what and from where?
In machine learning, from a top 20 University. I have peers who got > 250 K but I was rejected at a couple of FANGs due to poor LC skills
Learn to negotiate so you don’t get screwed next time
1.2 M tc per year? Are you for real?
Yes
Which company and what level you got to get so much stock? What's your publication record like? How many NIPS/ICML/ICLR/CVPR/ACL?
Wow!!! What do you do as a DL???
Solve computer vision problems
Bs. I am betting you can't even solve a single lc medium
950k RSU for 4 years or 1 year?
1 year
Are you sure? Who gives a 1mil RSU grants that vest in 1 year?
BS
Op you may have just inspired all of us tc chasers to go back to school for ml phd. I am still in utter disbelief. I thought my 200k+ tc was great. Then again your tc makes sense given how scarce the talent is for certain DL areas. TIL, swe is shit, long live scientists
Do it! DM me if you want advice
I call BS on this one. The very first wave of top grads like Kaparthy and Goodfellow were clocking $1mil TC a few years out of grad school. That was like 2015-2017ish era, where supply was lower. And now you're clocking the same TC with only 1 year out of grad school???
Is this some defense company? And how old are you?
Not a defense company. Age 25
So you finished your PhD at 24? When did you finish your undergrad?
I call BS..pics or didn’t happen!
Current TC, YOE, and most recent job or people won’t talk. Kinda the standard rules of blind
I'll update the post. Going to leave out some details to avoid doxing myself
