How much do tech companies care if you use their tech or not? Like will I be hired at fb without a profile or at apple if I use a samsung galaxy?
Good question. I’m currently applying at FB but have my account locked (not deleted, just... offline)
I got rejected from FB, recruiter literally said, interviewers feedback says I didn't show excitement towards their product. LOL! Who on earth still excited about FB the product? Google is chill though, they don't care what phone you're using. I heard you can't use Android phone at Apple.
Damn that escalated quickly
Confirmed you need a Facebook account to join. They don't care if you use it or not, it's just that your account is linked to a lot of internal stuff
The techlead said in one of his videos internal Facebook at work is another “look I did cooler shit than you” and it’s a race to earn more likes (similar non-work). This popularity contest for everything is a bit sickening. so fake or not - there seems to be a need to “like” the product philosophy?
That's just BS
He's referring to claiming impact on performance review. The shininess of your work in management's eyes will affect how much credit you get, but you also just need to have a lot to claim as well. It's not the sort of groupthink I think you're thinking about though.
Good idea
You will get hired, but to access a lot of the internal tools you need an FB account so you wont be able to stay without
And no - nobody cares how much you use it. I was hired despite using it roughly once every 3 months back then. I thought the product was great, just not very useful for me
The point that you are looking for verification here itself seems to me like a bad idea.

If memory serves me right, You won’t be able to apply at Fb without a profile.
This. Beyond the technical reason that you need it for authentication - nobody cares. I didn't know fb/ig well when I interviewed and it was clear I wasn't a product user. Every interviewer had to explain me the features about which they were asking the question (things that are obvious to FB users). It didn't matter in the end and didn't seem to have factored in my hiring decision.
I definitely applied without it.
