your friend shouldn’t be doing drugs

HP newbienoob OP Mar 7, 2019

Even weed? Have you ever worked in a tech environment where people were not smoking weed? I can't believe in 2019 that smoking weed could potentially disqualify a candidate.

Microsoft Gs4478 Mar 7, 2019

Yes I did. Some people don’t drink alcohol either.

‘But we’ve always done it this way’

Oracle l00tb0x Mar 7, 2019

Gov't contracts require it.

HP newbienoob OP Mar 7, 2019

Oracle, HP, Big 4, AMZ, etc all no drug test, all have gov contracts

Dell mikedell Apr 12, 2019

Yeah not surprising someone from Oracle has archaic understandings like this.

DUDE. YOURE GETTING A DELL.

Don’t do drugs or don’t take the job. Tell your “friend” to decide which is more important. It’s a pretty straightforward and personal value judgment. 🤷‍♂️ If you’re working in a group that has govt contracts that require clearances (as I do), it is required for the clearance. Deal.

HP newbienoob OP Mar 7, 2019

100% disagree. Marijuana is legal in many states. Makes sense for hard drugs, but weed should not be disqualifying. Especially when half the dept would get fired if they tested current employees. Also untrue as no drug test for recent hires at big4, oracle, amazon, hp, all teams with gov contracts and none had to drug test.

Deloitte weirdflex Mar 7, 2019

If you’re dealing with companies working projects that require clearances, it doesn’t matter. Your opinion is irrelevant. It remains illegal at a federal level and you’ll be disqualified regardless. Promise. I work with DOD in DC which requires TS/SCi and random drug testing. I’ve been tested thrice with minimal warning in 3 years. Recreational MJ possession and use is legal in DC and yet people are regularly fired or thrown off clearance projects for using it. If those contracts require the contractor to have clearances they ALSO require drug tests for that contractor. I repeat: this is explicitly and clearly laid out in the SF86. I also repeat: It’s irrelevant whether you disagree or think it “shouldn’t” be disqualifying. It is. Be my guest to confirm this via a google search. Your friend would be disqualified from the job anyways for recent use whether he pissed clean or not bc they will DQ you for regular or recent use even in states it’s legal.

Time to grow up a bit newbie. Either you want it, or you don’t. What’s more important to you?

HP newbienoob OP Mar 7, 2019

I'm happily employed and drug free but thanks

Just stay off for a month and start up again after you start working

Wait does HP not drug test?

HP newbienoob OP Mar 7, 2019

Nope, dont think there are many tech companies left that do which is why our friends circle was shocked by Dell. Couple of us applied around same time & now at HP, Oracle, AMZ w/o drug test but Dell candidate tested.

Dell Onra51 Sep 16, 2023

I worked for HP they drug tested that's not true
