I recently learnt that we need to file for H1b amendment for every location we travel to for work. This sucks bcoz I need to travel 80% of the time. I'm majorly concerned coz A) This means h1b process never gets over B) I have stories in which h1b validity got reduced from 3 yrs to duration of project ~ 6 to 10 months. How to true is this case? What are options we have?
Happened to me on my last project. My H1-B duration is reduced by an year. They just gave new 797 with project start and end dates as per SOW. It was like for 4 months
If you want to avoid visa processing going on all the time, find a long term project
Let’s say your new amendment is approved only for 3 months for location A then you can travel to location A only for 3 months and they need to file a new amendment again. But at the same time if you have a valid amendment for other location B which was already approved you can still continue to travel to location B (provided you are working for the same client).
I'm in the same situation as yours. Full time for Capgemini. Clients usually provide SoWs for 6 months, and extensions. Most of the times, I'll have to work at multiple client locations. Tried all the available options. About to move out of consulting !! Over a period of time, you would really not want to deal with amendments every 6 months. Consulting does pay well (in some cases), but it comes with a price - Immigration bulls***t.
Same here, started to think if I should move out of consulting, going through my 3rd extension in a period of 6 months 😑😑, love this job though
Okay guys! Are you talking about H1B amendment for changing base office or for every client location. I’m currently doing H1B amendment for change of base office from Dallas to Atlanta. I am not aware of doing H1B amendment for every client locations
It’s the law, you need to file amendment for every location you work outside of your home location (where you got your initial H1B for)
Hi fatanu, so you filed H1B amendment not H1B transfer for the base office change? How does that work(like how long). I’m considering moving to another office but have concern about the H1B issue. Thanks in advance!
