which one would you chose from below : specialist leader (AI) - Deloitte - this is just 1 level below Managing director. senior data scientist at BCG -MD -3 lead Data Scientist @McK -MD-3 #consulting #datascience
McKinsey is widely considered the leader of the consulting industry. The dude kinda came up with the whole thing...
Hey, OP congrats! What's your YOEs? How did you get there?
In the corporate world we all operate in, asking about employment prioritization between Deloitte vs McK is akin to asking whether one should shop at Walmart or the Whole Foods, for free. Unless you have a very compelling strategic play, the choice is rather obvious, it McK. I am not too sure about BCG’s AI chops but I would still venture to guess that it is definitely a better employer than Deloitte.
Few questions - Are any of these companies putting you on the partner track? McK would dangle a carrot like that but forget about ever making partner. - TC for each of these offers? - You do realize you will selling a load of BS about AI more than building stuff at higher levels - There is no official MD title at McK, are you referring to Sr Partner?
Thanks, taking about Partner at McK. It is a lot of selling but the way I was explained, all three are building stuff. TC for D role is 30% higher than rest 2.
What are the TC numbers at each? So 3 levels below partner is EM equivalent or Associate equivalent? In those roles you will be building stuff
As a SL at Deloitte, you'll generally be expected to have fairly hefty sales targets as well as be required to produce a ton of IP on top of your client work. At least when I was at Deloitte 5 years ago, it was quite hard to make the jump from SL to Managing Director (just Director at the time) or Principal ranks--SL was the terminal level for the overwhelming majority of folks on the Specialist track then, far more so than SM for folks on the consulting track, not sure if that's the case today. I can't speak to McK/BCG.
I believe that for AI experts, Mckinsey and other consulting companies will have to figure out retention issues, and they won’t be able to treat them like other SLs, given the undersupply of talent, and exit opportunities.
Thanks I am also thinking if it’s worth it to make switch to consulting from industry. I do love my job
Personal life suffers, gain is not much (vs doing similar work at a Tech company). So depending upon your current skillset & personal situation, there are very few scenarios where it makes sense to join consulting instead of gaining same skillset & making more money with better wlb and career options.
Thanks. Yes money is one of the upside.(I can be significant). But do you Guys think it helps with accelerating the career when you get back to industry ?
Deloitte is an H1B golden handcuff company. MBB is much better
I can confirm
