Any DevOps engineers here? Looking to see if someone can put me in the right direction. I started working for a consulting startup 4 years back and its been a great experience so far. Wore too many hats to staisfy the needs of different clients. From business analyst to developer and devops engineer. Now, I feel like I know a lot of things but cannot market myself for any single position to improve my position financially. After all these years, one thing I enjoyed doing most is the DevOps implementations. I learned DevOps as a product and almost mastered Azure DevOps. However, I started realizing DevOps is not just about few products and I need to really master the concepts of OS, containers and ability to change the work culture and approaches in a better way. I am being paid around $73K in Ohio with few benifits like 401K and $4K -$5K yearly bonus. How can I improve and move towards better carrer oppurtunities as a DevOps engineer. sorry for the long post. Just wanted to explain myself clearly before asking help
What part of devops do you enjoy the most ? What is the long term goal ? Personally my goal is to get back to being a swe. But Im very specialized devops.
I love solving the scalability issues with modern approaches as well as finding innovative ways to speed up the delivery of work. Honestly, I am still trying to figure out the long term goal. I know I am interested in architectural management stuff and planning to end up in that area. May I know why do you think you wanna get back to swe?
Because my skillset allows me to build scalable tooling. My goal is to get back to see and pivot into my own startup building out some of my private tool collection and sell the tools to companies who need to move fast but don't have the staff to do so.
