Hey all, I've been doing devops/some SRE for about 4 years at small/medium businesses in Toronto. High achieving and climbed fast but only worked in small ponds. I want to work at a FAANG but it seems like devops/SRE related-roles are lower in volume or don't exist at all at some companies. That said, do you think devops/SRE is a career limiting choice? Even if I got into a position, career growth in these types of roles doesn't seem as well defined from the outside looking in. Alternatively, should I consider preparing and interviewing for a entry-level SDE instead? I love tech in general so it wouldn't be a problem, but don't want to throw away 4 years experience. Does tc potential differ across disciplines? YOE: 4 TC: 140k Thanks
For Google specifically, you can go for the SWE-SRE role, where you’re a dev working in the SRE space and have flexibility to focus more on either. On the other hand, a “pure” SRE has separate pay ladder from SWE and need a full internal interview to switch to SWE.
G has proper SRE roles, and I know MSFT also has some but not much posted. AWS started listing SysDevEng roles as SRE now to attract more candidates.
Apple has DevOps and SRE roles, as well.
Screw the FAANG, checkout TradeRev.
Why? It seems rather mediocre
Interesting product, fast growing company, opportunity to have a massive impact.

At FAANG, it should be all infrastructure teams.
