I was looking for a technology / engineering role when an offer came to join #google as developer advocate, working with startups. The job sounds super fun - conferences, community, working with startups. But im afraid it won’t be challenging enough, tech wise. Will i be able to deepen my experience as a DA (regardless what the domain is)?
Yes, it's not very hands-on role.. In AWS, the same role called start-up solutions architect.. If you like to build and involve, go for traditional IC role
Don’t you have to talk to several managers to find a team you want to join? Since when did they start giving the role which they want you to join at?
Agree to this. So weird that you are willing to go along with this role fully knowing it was not technical to start with. Not very honest with yourself OP.
"not technical" isn't even true. I work with this team, it *is* hands-on, whatever that means, and it's not like a solutions architect. we actually have SAs that sit within the sales org. this isn't that. why haven't you raised these concerns with the hiring manager?

You’re right, it’s not a very challenging position, engineering wise. It’s mostly working with external parties to help them utilize google’s services. Knowledge of APIs, services and the such is mostly what you’d be dealing with
