I want to develop an indie project as a side hustle and want to ask if some of my colleagues are interested in doing it together. Is it a bad idea?
Just keep it away from work. Not on work time or work computers. Friends you can trust only.
Check your companies policies to they may require you to divulge this even if you are doing it off company property.
Worth checking company policy/talking to legal first
I wouldn't, TBH. Best case scenario, the project is a huge hit, and your employer immediately will want a piece of the pie. They'll find some way to implicate you as using company time/resources to work on it. Worst case scenario, the game bombs. You've sunk a lot of time, energy and focus into the project, your work contributions have likely slipped. I just wouldn't do it. Keep it casual, work on it in your own time nights and weekends, keep entirely separate from work.
