I just got promoted from Level 4 to level 5 in Amazon as a SDE. Q2 promotion. What I have received is only base salary increase from 112k to 146k per year. There is no additional RSU granted. I do have 70 stock RSU granted two years ago when I first join Amazon. My manager told me that the total compensation is around 189k this year. And next year total is 200k. My question is that is what I received below or far below the average compensation of a L5 SDE in Amazon?
The same for me when i got promo to L5 - no stock refresh and only base increase. But my total comp is around 200k at L5. I think we are lowballed.
Sad đ
Actually that big of a base bump in one year is good. Sometimes, companies will only increase it by ~7% per year until it reaches the "target" for the title.
Amazonâs policy is to lowball all internal promotions. You donât get a new hire offer when you get promoted.
You canât expect top of the next band
Promos will always put you at the bottom of the band because their thought is you are below the bar (and the promotion itself effectively lowers 2 bars: the level you are leaving and the one you are entering). New hires get better comp because they start at around the middle of the band since the idea is the bar raiser deemed them to be better than at last half of us
