Can Googlers help me understand the differences between these titles? The main confusion is that there appears to be overlaps with strategy leads and managers, while some look to be IC's while others manager of people with an expectation to be an IC as well. Same for 'Heads Of' titles that appear to require many YOE or less. What to make of this? What would be the levels per each? Ime. Lead is L5? Manager L6 Head of L7?
Another clarifying question if you know. Does that logic apply to Biz Ops teams and the GBS org (Global Business Strategy)?

Google CFO confirms "large-scale" layoffs today (Apr 17)
Depends on the non-tech ladder and it’s not entirely consistent or uniform. manager is usually L6. Team lead is usually 5. Just a “lead” could be 4 or 5. Head of is usually a 6 or 7 trying to seem like they have scope for director.
Thanks for the reply. Clarifying question, L6 can be IC and/or people manager? While L5 is the team lead is the highest level of IC before manager then correct?
Depending on the org, some non-tech orgs have team leads as low as level 4 (entry level sales and ops teams). Level 5 is seen as the first fork level (can be IC or transition to team lead. Level 6 in non-tech is almost always managing but there are some occasional L6 ICs (like 10 in T&S, some PgMs, etc.)
