I applied for SDE. I got rejected after the on-site but at the same time the recruiter told me that the team thought that my profile fits better for a Sr Technical Program Manager. I know that the position has nothing to do with Software Development itself so I am wondering.
Did the team really saw something in my profile that matches with such a position or the recruiter is just being proactive?
Have any of you had a similar experience?

When I joined Amazon I was curious to know why I didn't get the role I interviewed for as my interview went really well. I got to know that they interviewing another internal candidate in parallel and they gave that position to him as Amazon gives first preference to their employees.
So, to answer your query either they found another internal employee or they genuinely felt that you might be a great fit for Sr Tech PM.
