https://youtu.be/n6_Sc1Cn7d4 I still remember being rejected from FBU internships from before. Those funnel into regular internships which I was also rejected for. The whole programming game has become unmeritocratic
Oh fuck off.
The Tech Lead isn't an underrepresented minority and wouldn't count towards most diversity initiatives tbf
Diversity efforts are because the industry was already unmeritocratic.
Why didn’t the super skilled minority engineers snubbed by the industry go off and start their own businesses to compete with the legacy companies that are staffed by privileged engineers who aren’t as good? You can write code from anywhere. Not sure what barriers stop you from being a great software engineer.
The same reasons why all the Europeans, Indian, Chinese engineers did not to build their own business to complete.
"Someone removed my systemic advantage; I'm being discriminated against!"
What systemic advantages do asians have over whites?
Over whites? None
do you think it was equal and democratic before?
I'm actually happy that Google does not do diversity hires. I'm surprised people don't know. Just MoMA the term. I'm really proud of our company for this
Why did that one guy write that manifesto about it, if Google doesn't do it? Did they change or was he completely wrong?
everyone has to make the same bar at Google in terms of competence. with a huge application pool, Google has the luxury of making their workforce more representative of the world as a whole. so in a way yes there are diversity hires because they want a more diverse population, but not in the sense that the candidates wouldn’t get the job otherwise (since the talent pool is huge), which would actually be a problem.
This poll tells a lot why it is and will be hard for companies to achieve any “real diversity”. Tech workers don’t like it, really, but it’s impossible to skip over their Engineers to hire diverse people. People hire people they wanna work with It’s also human nature to want to work with people like you, it’s common that an engineer after leaving poach his buddy to his new job(that’s actually a systemic advantage that minorities don’t have) I think it’s noble(I hear you bro, co aren’t in noblesse business, fuck diversity) for companies to try to have a divers body of worker since they’re not only making money from only three demographic but everybody (for instance Fb doesn’t only sell Asian and white people data, they sell everybody data 😂 )
Techlead is racist! Flag his video, report his account and shut down his channel!
As someone who has fought the odds. I understand the good intentions, but it fosters a mentallity of victimhood and entitlement. There are many people who have dedicated many years of their life towards a better life and have made it against the odds. These are the people who are role models and visionaries. They will enable a change organically. Hiring someone based on diversity dilutes this organic change and is also a big fuck you to the people who actually work for it.
