This is kind of weird to ask since I am an immigrant myself, but where I work I feel like I am a minority because the majority of the workforce is Indian. Also I realized that their work ethic ( working crazy OT and never argue any business strategy) is affecting non-Indians workers, because they set an expectation to be always on call and available 24/7. Farmers built its operations over Cognizant and Capgemini contractors and now we start to feel the shit state of poor quality and lack of skilled engineers with real knowledge of CI-CD, container and cloud technologies. I have excellent Indians colleagues but I see they never ever question any management decision, they just bow and obey without a word, they keep their mouth shut and play along. What's your experience with Indians coworkers?
Did you read your job description?
I feel like generalizing about your coworkers based on their national origin (or race) will probably not serve you well
That's why I'm asking questions, what I perceive might be wrong, I'd like to hear others opinions.
And replace biology with gender studies while we’re at it.
Could be more the culture of your company than anything else. Amazon has a “disagree and commit” leadership principle, where open arguments and alternative solutions are encouraged to be discussed until everything is gone over and a decision is committed to. Though there are likely some country of origin related cultural differences (I’ve seen it more with Chinese/Japanese culture), but having disagree and commit written down as a company wide principle helps people get out of their shells.
That's also true, thanks to pointing it out. Culture is a big issue here at Farmers indeed.
Differences like what?
OP is right, this is Indian work culture. Everything he describes is in these articles: https://m.economictimes.com/argumentative-too-emotional-are-indians-tough-to-work-with/articleshow/45638709.cms http://m.rediff.com/business/slide-show/slide-show-1-special-how-work-culture-in-india-differs-from-rest-of-the-world/20111010.htm http://content.timesjobs.com/work-cultureindian-work-cultureworkplacesofficejobcareer/articleshow/60865695.cms I have had meetings on Sunday nights or received frantic calls Monday morning for non-issue events. It is terrible.
"Never question any management decision" is a most-wanted virtue by a majority, of mediocre people, in management!
You feel like a minority? What about my boss (not at SpaceX) - a black American who has to manage the following gang: - one Eastern European (me) - four Indians - four Chinese Everyone is a fine person, but do we look like a stock photo.
