What is the best old school all manual car to buy? Budget is $100K. Mostly for hobby driving.

No Teslas please

Miata is always the right answer. The NB second gen is deliciously analogue.

Get over your budget and you’ll enjoy a $5k Miata more than a $50k something else.

If you want old school muscle that WORKS, get a Corvette, C5 or later

If you just want something brutish, go resto-mod 440 Mopar, Chevelle SS 396, or a nice 390 Mustang. Enjoy the quirks of carburetion. :)

Off.topic from what OP is asking for, bit S2000 is loads better than Miata.
Otherwise 57 Bel Air or 60s Chevelle ... can stick some big block motors in there and both look bad ass.

S2000s are better in ways. My brother had one and I still say the Miata was more fun. S2000s are obviously much faster and have more grip. The Miata is balanced better. You work to balance the car with the brakes and throttle around every corner. If you do it perfectly you can be lightly on the brakes as you flick it into a corner, then straighten the wheel and steer the car with throttle the rest of the corner. Never was able to do that in an S2000. Miatas are more rewarding as a driver.

Can you get an Aston DB5 in good condition for under 100k still? Not the fastest, not remotely practical, but probably the COOLEST series production car of all time

Although you said America muscle, and for pure fun in that sense it's very hard to beat a Cobra (real open cockpit Shelby ones, not the "Cobra" branded Mustangs)

Classic Corvettes wouldn't be a bad choice, either... Late 60s Stingray or early 90s ZR1 would be relatively exclusive, late 1970s C3 or late 80s C4 would be fun, cheap as dirt if you don't need a collectible one and could be fun to restore (and if you're not in CA with the CARB to deal with, they're one of the easiest classic cars to drop a modern crate engine into)

If it's a 240SX or 280Z or 300ZX it would be a nice base to work from
