Not in the way you're thinking. My team is mostly Chinese. The Chinese seniors in our team take better care of the Chinese juniors. I guess that falls into getting treated differently.
Differently, yes Unfairly, IMHO, “No”. I said yes because there’s a general perception about Asian women (Ind/Chinese/Kor/Jap etc.) that they work hard. I see and observe people around me being very polite, courteous, (both face to face and even at their back), respectful and talk with an open mind. What’s your premise here ?
If Asians were aggressive or less respectful, would your opinion change to a Yes?
How can Asians (all of Asians) be aggressive and or less respectful at the same time? That’s what I am trying to say that the 2 incidences I mentions in one of my comments totally point that both are aggressive, disrespectful and opportunist. But that does not put all the Asian women in that bucket. I have had bitter experiences but I am still hopeful. I give all the respect and care I can hoping they would see that and return the same.
Asian and Asian American men have it worst in the us next to African American women.
Why?
If you think about asian or aa (asian American) men - they are considered effeminate as well as supple. Furthermore, their gender counterpart quite often dates out and asian / aa men have zero affirmative action benefits. So if you think about it: 1. Few women want asian / aa men 2. No companies want asian / aa men all things equal 3. Underrepresented in media and entertainment 4. Considered effeminate. There is absolutely no benefit to being asian or aa compared to other racial counterparts. The arguments i hear a lot are: 1. Weren’t slaves - sure - that was 150 years ago and perpetratators of Slavery have long been dead. Asians were sort of slaves to build the railroad 2. Not targets of police - ok. Yes have it better there but there is a systematic underlying issue with both police and African American issues that hasn’t been solved and is hard to solve. Eg. Jesse Jackson even says when he hears footsteps in the back and he turns around and sees white people and feels relieved, which means while Police need to change, African American communities need to change too. Tough topic to tackle and we need Real dialogue about this not defensive or easily offended positions.
Speaking about outside the workplace Seattle has the probably the least amount of general racism towards East Asians out of just about anywhere in the world (that isn't east Asia)
Totally agree with Oaoisi. Asian men are treated the worst after African women.
Care to elaborate?
@sarah❤️ Am not stereotyping or generalizing. I have had great experiences with my women friends but a few experience left me in bitter taste. For example, There’s this Japanese girl. I asked her if she would like to join me for lunch. And she said “no”. She gave a reason that she is busy with work. I agreed and said we can have lunch later. Later, several times, I saw her going out for lunch with other white guys which meant she did have time later. But even out of respecting the fact that someone valued her and asked her out for lunch she never felt like checking with me for lunch. I agree that I might not be her type. But All i was asking was for lunch. Men and women ask me for lunch so many times. I don’t make my choice based on how much I like or dislike that person. I atleast honor once even if I don’t like that person. Another case, a Chinese coworker, she comes to me all the time to ask for tech help. And I love to help her (and anyone that comes my way). I liked her so I asked her out one time and she was very rude and shut me down. And again a few days later started drooling around with her tech queries. I was so confused. Huh !! Brown guy is good for tech issues but for hanging out am not fit enough ??
asians are labor.. unfit for senior leadership. edit:. i'm asian myself so I'm not attacking asians, I'm expressing the discrimination I've felt in my own career
Jack Ma was a founder. John Chen - he’s literally the only non founder in the Fortune 500.
In the U.S. East Asian men are the most discriminated group. 1. No affirmative action and held to significantly higher standards in admission and hiring. My Asian male classmates and colleagues were brilliant. They had to be perfect to get to where they are. Unlike blacks and Latinos. 2. It is still considered socially acceptable to make fun of them. They are not seen as fully American, unfortunately. 3. The media has emasculated Asian men since the 1930s. This has had a profound impact, such as their difficulty in dating and Asian women worshipping white men and openly shitting on Asian men.
I wish I could upvote this a million times. Spot on.
I think 3 is a pretty valid point, but 2 is wrong - definitely not ok to make fun of Asians. With 1 you’re not being discriminated against, just no longer gaining the benefit of affirmative action. Other racial minorities are being prioritized above you. Sorta like being white. I definitely disagree with your larger point of being the most discriminated racial group. Asians don’t get picked up for stop & frisk and weren’t restricted from owning businesses or land during segregation. Asians aren’t disproportionately targeted for random car searches or by the police. Asian names aren’t discriminated against while hiring. There are no unconscious racial biases in the amygdaloid when seeing large groups of Asians together. Despite being the #1 source of immigration to the USA, Asians are not the target of anti-immigration sentiments. Rather Asians are regarded as the more favorable type of immigration. Demographically Asian immigration looks a lot more like European immigration from stable countries a generation ago, but with the added temporary benefit of affirmative action. Kosovo or Syrian immigrants are considered white and don’t get any benefit on their college applications. Be happy Asians got a tiny boost when it happened - few other cultures did.
Everyone gets treated like shit. Asians are just more focused on other problems in their life like family and making money to care if other people say slightly racists things. They are more in a bubble and care less about other people. Unless of course they are Americanized and were taught to be offended by every little thing by society.
For one, if asian = chinese, japanese, and korean... then yeah. A lot of asians already got excluded
Yes.
