Do Asians have an advantage in tech?

Asians including South Asian and East Asian.

Since other groups are disadvantaged, that must make Asians advantaged right?

Just curious what advantages we have other than needing higher GPA to get into college - my low income immigrant family doesn't work in tech and I never got any motivation to study CS. On the contrary, they wanted me to study a pre-med subject like biology, which is a female dominated field.

Like do we get easy questions or lower hiring bar? Thus the hiring bar must be reduced for other demographics.

    What do you mean by advantage? This post sounds racist. If you donโ€™t like study then donโ€™t blame other putting more effort on their study.

  • Thse are advantages:
    1. Full family, asian father is mostly with his family, and not locked up behind bars somewhere
    2. Good upbringing, focus on education and hard work
    3. A lot of asians are immigrants, and since there is a barrier to immigration, that means only certain top percentile of people immigrate, so you are dealing with right tail of the bell curve in all aspects. Meanwhile in the US we have to deal with people from the entire distribution of the bell curve across all aspects

    • Oracle, fair point, but all immigrants are out of scope for DEI because they are not US citizens. DEI is only about providing affirmative action for URM-US citizens

      ^thatโ€™s not true. African immigrants have always disproportionately benefited from affirmative action initiatives (despite not having disadvantaged by US history via slavery, Jim Crow laws, crack cocaine being put into poor black neighborhoods by the CIA, mass incarceration of black men resulting in lack of father figures, etc.)

      I have multiple 2nd gen African American friends who went to Ivies and even told me that theyโ€™re the ones who filled up all the groups and clubs targeted towards black people.

    East Asians are disproportionately underrepresented in tech leadership.

    Studies also show that people react significantly worse to assertive Asians than submissive Asians, submissive whites, and assertive whites.

    D&I will never admit it though because itโ€™s not trendy to get equal representation for Asians.
