Like the title says.
When filling out applications you're often asked if you require immigration assistance in order to work lawfully in the US.
For software engineering roles, what should Canadian citizens answer?
Also, can requiring immigration assistance be used against you in the application process?

The letter has some really dumb requirements that you wouldn’t find on a regular job letter so you’ll need an employer that will play ball.
The TN requirements ask for a letter that sounds very different from an ordinary employment letter (e.g. the letter needs to describe your educational qualifications).
So it sounds like I should always answer "yes" to the question "do you require immigration assistance".
That said, can't employers use that as a basis to deny your application? Or is that not a realistic concern?
The letter can be written by HR but is better being drafted by a lawyer. You can hire the lawyer to draft the letter with your employer but most big firms won’t do this.
Some dumb stuff the letter needs: job duties that match DoL description for position, why you’re qualified and a termination date of less than three years from the start date (because TN is only valid for three years).
A good lawyer will also give you a copy of the Cronin memo.
