Wondering whether ex-faang employees fair well at Tesla? Read on Blind that most only last a couple of years. Wondering how the culture and work is different compared to FAANG? Really interested in working on automotive systems but afraid that I might not fit in...
I worked at tesla. Within 1 year of working there 6/10 people quit on my team. Then I quit. Terrible wlb, pay, and benefits. Go if you like the mission, and don't mind Elon tweeting a feature you are weeks away from finishing will be ready at midnight
Did you say we're only 8 weeks behind? But remember that drop frame issu - dude, I dont even want to know about it
~65 hrs/week. Those who don't get laid off stay on for 2-3 yrs.
Jim Keller didn’t last long at Tesla. So you decide!!
Only those with no their own opinion stay at Tesla for more than couple years. If you don’t agree to make shortcuts and workarounds, if you want to do proper way and with minimal technical debt, execs and managers will hate you. I’ve seen folks from Amazon here, but that’s it, don’t know why you would join Tesla over other faang. PS leaving Tesla in one week after a year.
Average tenure seems to be 1-2 years. Longer if you really believe in the mission. If you like “scrappy” and resource constrained environments (like a startup) with a lot of autonomy then this is the place for you! However when it comes to cross team coordination, it can be a pain. It’s like you take the worst parts of being in a large company with all the red tape and none of the benefits.

You do realize that average tenure at FAANG companies is also only a few years right? Tesla retention I would guess is even lower.
