I heard that financial companies see a lot of educational background. Is it hard to get a job as a swe if I have mediorce academic background?(top 50ish cs master) +) Do swe at finance usually wear headphones when they work? Thank you.
As an investment banker? Yes. As a SWE? No.
Thank you for your answer.
As a SWE at an investment bank, no. For top trading firms, it’s not impossible but it will be an uphill battle.
Thank you. Do you usually wear headphones for work?
Ya my whole team does
Yes for top tier HFT firms. They usually have a list of feeder schools, though the list is expanding nowadays.
Thank you. How many schools are in the list? top 10?
If you want to be an "algorithmic trader" or "quant trader" I would say your chances fall drastically below HYPSM+Caltech+Chicago. For SWE a top 20 school might cut it, but it's still better to be from a higher ranked school.
Hedge funds big money is in quant jobs, and you need top school to get in as a quant.
Mostly yes for a quant/quant dev/quant trader role even at Gs
Goldman sachs. No. Need referral?
Thank you for your referral :) Do you usually wear headphone?
About 15% of the people around me wear headphones. So I think the answer should be no?
