Got let go recently as my company decided to move the work I was doing to the India office. So I’m looking for a new job now - was wondering do I need to bother with LinkedIn (endorsements, recommendations, photo, etc.)? Tbh I havent bothered with LinkedIn so far because it seems very much like a professional version of facebook and I’m not about that life. I have 5 years of experience as a PM(product) and dont have doubts in my ability to do the job or clear an interview - question is do I need to have a LinkedIn profile to get an interview?
Where are you located? Strong profiles will likely stand out on the applications. Mongo has roles in NY.
ATL but open to moving
LinkedIn is the first place I go when I get the name of a candidate. There isn’t a single hiring manager that I work with that doesn’t look applicants up on LinkedIn.
All the jobs I've been hired into over the 7+ years have all come from LinkedIn, applying to their postings and connecting with recruiters. As a hiring manager, I find it a far more effective use of my time looking through LinkedIn profiles than reading through a stack of resumes. It's low overhead and you shouldn't feel obligated to spend time on it like other forms of socal media.
Don’t have linkedin and will never get one. There’s bots that give out LinkedIn recommendations. Which I’ve seen it happen to my friends. They get a comment on the recommendation section from someone they don’t know or never even spoken to.
You can’t leave a recommendation for someone you aren’t directly connected to. And new recommendations do not appear unless you approve them. So this did not happen the way you claim.
Yes! It did maybe the connection was accepted but my friend didn’t know that person at all
I actually reached out to everyone at I knew at the time and they all were open to refer me
Yes. If you are a new grad and it is your first job, okay fine you don’t have one. If you’ve had some internships on your resume, well you should have one but if you don’t I will just assume you’re naive. If you’ve had actual full time jobs though? No LinkedIn is a yellow flag. Like you didn’t make any connections, maybe you know you couldn’t get any recommendations, etc. I always look for a LinkedIn of applicants even if they don’t list it on their resume.
Thanks for the reply - this is the kind of insight I was looking for on how hiring managers vet candidates. Guess I’ll go update that LinkedIn profile now.
Almost all Tech Recruiters use LinkedIn to find candidates to hire for their open positions
You have time for a blind account. Get a LinkedIn account.
I do have an account - just have not bothered updating it in a while or chasing endorsements and recommendations because I feel like social media in general tends to reduce quality of life for me
Lol... You've got time to post/reply here 😂
