Seems like they shouldn’t cause sign on bonus is a one time thing and falls off eventually.

I had an offer recently and asked for a specific TC. I assumed this did not include sign on bonus, but they actually included it in their TC calculation. That didn’t seem to make sense to me since it really only inflates the TC for the first year and feels a bit disingenuous. I wanted to know if this is kind of a standard practice?

With Amazon, they also included sign on as TC but that made sense to me because the sum of the RSUs and Sign on is always the same (or increasing) over a 4 year period. So you won’t really see a drop in TC.

It would be part of TC in any year that it’s part of ones comp. when it ends, the other elements of TC (base, stock, perf bonus, etc) take over as the TC

Only Amazon as far as I know. Although I have had recruiters speak about it like it's TC but never on compensation paperwork.

When it falls off then it's not in your TC anymore right? In what context are you asking? From the perspective of your TC on some employee page, this would mean that your total compensation for the first year will show as high but after that it will become lesser... And if you are talking about aggregate numbers then at that point we really look at averages and so other employees without this sign on bonus will dominate the numbers overall
