Guys , this is a serious post, no trolling please. Context: Got into some shitty politics with manager and his henchmen in the team. Manager put me on a dev plan. Worked my ass off - but was entered into pivot - took the improve plan option and leetcoded during the plan. Resigned during the plan and joined a competitor. My new company is fairly big and all , but guess i am having a withdrawal from all the ‘working my ass off’ for bananas at Amazon. Especially after yesterday’s news of the stock price soaring up, I kinda feel i lost the race - a prospective future working for Amazon and reaping all the benefits of the stock and being a part of the innovation . How do i stop feeling this way 😑 TC: 200k yoe: 3.5
Get a bottle of old monk, have a good cry, check your ball sack and move on
Sound advice ! Especially the checking my ball sack part
Given the TC is in USD, i am not sure if the op understands "old monk".
Huh? You aren’t working at amazon but you’re eligible to own their stock. Don’t confuse the two.
You are not losing anything. If you feel confident about amazon’s future, just buy more AMZNs. TBH one feels much better as an amazon share holder than an employee.
What about the fact that I can’t get to work on the next big thing/product in tech. I know the popular advice is to do some hobby projects / app development and pursue my interests on the side - but how long would I really be motivated to do that ? Isn’t it easier if you are a part of the company that embraces all that in their tech ?
Other companies have a lot more good opportunities than Amazon. While you are working for Amazon you can’t get to work on quantum computing in google or some other fancy stuff in other companies right? Don’t feel bad. Amazon is good but doesn’t deserve you worrying so much. Move on and enjoy your life.
Your job/title/company does not define you. The reality is that everybody leaves. I was at FAANG very recently. I definitely have withdrawals especially with perks or seeing peers moving up but I left on my own terms. Totally agree with above that toxic companies are a real waste
Also, this: I’m on my third faang assuming Apple is in faang, but I wouldn’t seriously consider going back to amazon
Okay. May I ask what your reasons to never go back are ?
There's a bunch of tech cos innovating hard, not just Amazon, so there's good work to be found if you look a bit. As other people pointed out, you can always buy a bunch of Amazon stock if you believe in the company. As for the messed up vesting schedule and not getting your fair due after working your ass off, well tough luck.
Amazon does not look good on your resume it’s shit tier, on the same level as booking pretty much. Source: when I see amazon on candidates CV i’m like whatever, too common at this point. When i see ‘google’ on candidates CV i’m like ‘this guy fucks’
Well, it’s your own insecurity at this point. Been at amazon and google both and I can tell you that you will be surprised :) both companies have smart people and shit people that play politics to survive and thrive.
Lol the same as booking? Good one bro
Outside the rainforest you have
You get what you deserve. Don’t overthink
It is everywhere . Don’t feel bad
My advice: avoid toxic work environments at all costs. You will have opportunities to earn more money. Respect yourself and your mental health first.
Guess that’s what I am not doing right now - Respecting myself
Your post title says otherwise
