Trying to break into investment banking and wondering if my chances are slim -- I attended a state school. I know that investment banks place some importance on the school you went to, but how important is that? Are there any experiences or additional things I could do to increase my chances of a successful interview at a BB?
Not true.. JP Morgan has outreach program to hire non graduates if they show passions for programming.. its has various programs like code for good and some hackathons.. try to get into hackathon programs.. there are significant recruiting done that way. I dont have the specifics though.
Generally you need a 3.8+ GPA. You will have to network your ass off to get an interview and do a ridiculous amount of interview prep to get an offer. However, it’s possible.
A high GPA + impressing at a networking event = thrown into the summer analyst pool... After that it's luck of the draw and how you interview. At least that's what it takes for me to add someone to the pool.
Getting some Experience and coming in as a contractor is another route
Have a high GPA, get involved with the finance clubs at your school. You would certainly still have a chance if you have a great GPA and good EC’s, but it’s not easy. Btw you should ask this on Wall Street oasis
