Do men need to ask consent for courtship?

We are the generation that uses tinder, yet we get upset when we get an unwarranted touch on our arm at a bar. Should men be required to ask for consent when continuing to flirt with or even talk to a woman?

What happened to people just telling each other they weren’t interested?

I can’t help but think this movement may be going too far. Just the overly inclusive nature of the name implies that it will over encompass the populace. We need to focus on real victims and not create this false sense of alarm.

Often, when you tell someone you’re not interested, they react negatively or continue to pursue.

Awkward but arrogant nerds with money happened, that’s what 😅

On point 👍

You don't have to stereotype all nerds like that.

There is a woeful lack of parenting and training when it comes to this issue. Which sitcom or movie do you see where the man asks for explicit permission to touch or kiss? Unfortunately TV and movies are where we teach our kids how to relate to each other because we are confused ourselves.

Women aren’t complaining about a touch on the arm. They are complaining about guys blatantly hitting on them in the workplace. The workplace is not the place to treat as a dating pool. It’s a place for business. Is that so hard to understand? Don’t treat women any differently than men at work.

Isn't that what asking for a woman's phone number is? A man asking for a woman's consent to contact her for a romantic/sexual/intimate pursuit.

I'm pretty sure the result of this metoo movement is going to be a notarized document for any type of consent

Microsoft allH1Bout Feb 13, 2018

You should have to get consent before speaking to a women.

The whole movement has just made me hyper aware of how/when I interact with women at work to the point I actively ignore and go out of my way to avoid interacting with women at all. Life is just easier that way and I don’t have to worry about it.

Salesforce nJlL46 OP Feb 12, 2018

This is my concern. See my comment about how we’re creating a breed of overly-paranoid, and frankly therefore unattractive, men

Twitch 73€|^{ Feb 12, 2018

I feel bad about it because of the common negative stereotype of women in engineering orgs, but at the end of the day, it’s just easier and safer to ignore them with such a risk of unintentionally saying/looking/doing the wrong thing. I can’t be accused of harassment if there’s no interaction. All it takes is one crazy person to file a HR complaint against me for harassment and I’m done. Not even being gay would help me at that point...

Then shouldn't it also be the other way around too?
