When having competing offers and you are negotiating do recruiters ask for the proof of competing offers? Are they even allowed to ask ? And if asked can we deny it? And if we deny it do they still honor it.... given its close enough to reality.
Commenting because I am curious as well
No
Had a competing offer and didn’t provide proof to recruiter beyond verbal acknowledgement. Offered to screen shot the written offer and was told it wasn’t necessary
This was at Google. Entergy is a utility in the middle south, btw. Equivalent of PG&E in SF or Puget Sound Energy in Seattle
Google asked me to send the the Facebook offer I had. They matched it but still ended up with Facebook
You better have the competing offer to fall to when they give up on getting you accept their offer.
The bigger risk is that if you don't truly have the competing offer, the company can back out. Happened witha friend and Linkedin said that they won't match and also took back their initial offer.
They took back the initial? How much did he say the competing offer was for? Did he just baselessly lie?
He didn't lie so it wasn't too bad for him. Yes they did take back the initial. He was interested in joining for LinkedIn though. His competing offer was about 20-25 % higher afaik.
I’ve never been asked for proof of a competing offer. The proof is in me being willing to walk away from an offer I deem less than impressive and take my talents elsewhere. If you’re bluffing and they call your bluff you’re in for a treat.
These days you gotta play that shit part of the game unfortunately... Recruiters got smart finally, but you can still beat them regardless

You can deny it, but they may not consider your competing offer without proof.
How does it work though? None of my previous offers gave me anything in writing until I verbally committed and even then they kept on asking if I'm done interviewing else where before sending me the official letter.
