How much does a tech recruiter get paid at Faang companies. i am hearing that they get paid close to engineers. how true is this?
Entry level is around $90k I believe
From what I know at Microsoft (at least, it was true last year for the recruiters working with my team), for each successful hire the recruiter gets 25% of the hire's base salary. Not sure how it's split between recruiters and sources, but looks like quite a lot of money in a year.
Then why do they try to lowball ?
That’s not true at all, tech recruiters at FAANG companies and tech companies in general don’t get paid per hire, only agencies pay that way...recruiters are paid base salary 100-160k usually based on yoe with tech recruiting, specialized recruiters can make more (exec, security, etc)
I hear most tech recruiters in SF get 150 k base salary.
Sourcers make around $80k-$90k base Recruiters at top faang make $100-$150k+ base depending on seniority level. Internal recruiters don’t make commission on placements
They can earn a lot, especially when you consider the stock at high growth companies.
Recruiter TC guesstimates since it will vary but within range L4 - 85k (0-3) L5 - 120k (3+) L6 - 180k (7+) You get more as a Recruiting Manager but the pays isnt terrible. Its pretty great pay for liberal arts majors. Edit:added (YOE) on avg. Also easier to get promoted before YOE numbers internally. I've seen L5s in under 2years and L6s in under 5.
Experienced Tech recruiters can make good money. Entry level folks starting at an agency can start around $30-50k TC with bonus via commission. Firms charge 20-30% per placement, recruiters eat btw 2-10% in commission. Account managers are usually more rewarded. Mid level is closer to $60-80k Top performers can make $100-250k+ TC depending on what you’re billing $500k-$1M+. Common misconception is recruiters making a fee per hire if you’re internal that makes no sense since companies hire internal recruiters to reduce agency spend. In-house recruiters help build stronger domain expertise with their internal business partnerships to improve time to hire and candidate experience. There are bonuses tied to performance typically 10-20% based on offers extended as a sourcer or offers accepted as a recruiter. If you’re at a startup many offer no bonus at all. In-house recruiting bands can look something like this: Associate $70-100k base Senior $100-150k base Staff/Lead $150-180k base Principal $180-225k base *Staff and principal is very difficult to get unless you have 10+ YOE and prior experience in leadership. Lots of back channel referencing. The real money difference for tech recruiting vs. Eng is the equity. Recruiters get much smaller equity upside and tiny refreshers. The equity can vary depending on startups vs. FANG. Only exec recruiting and certain specialties or director level and up would receive large equity packages comparable to E4/E5 Eng levels. I’ve seen Staff and Principal make close to $400-500TC. Partners at agency make $1M on exec side and depending on their specialties some make that doing volume like R4R or traditional SWEs.
How to become a tech recruiter?
Recruiters are definitely one of the most over compensated areas in tech.
Wow haha you cant pay a good recruiter enough in my opinion... the bs they deal with for hiring managers and candidates. It’s one the most complex challenges that every company faces and requires a great deal of emotional intelligence and intuitiveness. To deal with ppl like you ^
Bbxcu has jokes and clearly gets rejected often by recruiters
