Do you actually enjoy the Mac/osx workflow?

Nov 8, 2019 25 Comments

I've tried to like it, but the way osx forces you to manage programs and switch between them annoys me greatly. I.e. red circle doesnt close an app, difficult to switch between windows of the same app, weird trackpad gestures are recommended, annoying to move an application to a different window. Do people actually like the way apple set this all up?

I like OSX because it's unixlike. I do agree about window maximization / minimization / whateverthefuck that plus thing is. I think Windows did it the most naturally. I've never used OSX's because it feels so unintuitive.

Somehow linux distros have better ux than a company known for its ux

Yeah but at least the OSX printer driver won't require a kernel patch to stop my headphones from trying to play through my keyboard.

I like osx just because it’s not as robotic as windows. It def takes some getting used to tho.

I like windows. Just starting a new job and they only offer a Mac pro, I'm definitely installing Windows on it.

Once you learn hotkeys for os x - there's no coming back. Although some companies will force you to use Windows 😔

No they're not. A lot of layouts are just crap and you'll be forced to use mouse a lot more than on os x.

I use an app called Spectacles. It has keyboard shortcuts for resizing windows that I like.

I do wish Mac OS X was easier to navigate without a mouse

Would much rather run some Linux distro where I can choose a window manager that doesn't make me sad.

I hate when I hit Enter it renames instead of opening the damn file or folder!

Why though? Enter for renaming makes no sense. F2 seems better suited for this unusual operation.

I find MacOS really needs workspaces to be useful if you have more than two windows open.

Windows and Gnome/KDE handle wibdows a lot better, to the point where workspaces are nice but not strictly necessary.

Overall work flow on Mac is inferior, but tolerable.

Only OCD control freak cares about this. Relax! The window is out of the way. That’s all that matters.

Osx has so many usability and ux issues and it's complete trash. Open source Linux DEs are doing way better
