Until recently, I believed that receiving stock as part of the compensation was rare or reserved to higher roles or Big Tech. Apparently, it is quite common in other companies as confirmed by other friends In Amex, this is reserved for VPs and up. No intro level, mids, or senior(not sure about directors) get any stock compensation. All my current compensation comes from my base salary and bonuses Do you get other forms of compensation besides base in your company? Please comment on the company and position if possible :) Tc : 110k Yoe 4y
Are you a software engineer?
Yes
move to a tech companies. Many companies pay software engineers more equity than their base. Equity is the main reason why many software engineers are rich AF
All the FAANS (minus Netflix). Almost all the tech firms you can name.

The whole tech sector pays a large portion of salary in stocks, even for fresh grads. The large companies all do. Most startups also do (with private equity, i.e. lottery tickets). Just check out offer breakdowns on levels.fyi for fresh grad roles in any tech company. As for myself, base is a bit under 60% of my total compensation (6 yoe), switching companies soon and expect the base to be below 50%.
Is private equity ever a good idea?
If you really believe in the startup, plan to stick around/see a liquidity event in the horizon, and don't mind making less money for a potential huge payout (e.g. you're already financially independent), sure. If you just want to earn money, nope.

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
Used to work at Amex. I think a lot of banks don’t offer stocks. Senior level and higher at a lot of startups and tech companies do. Walmart does as well.
Only for seniors or for everyone?
Depends on the company
