You don’t need a car for the city, having one to get out of town though is pretty great. So much amazing stuff within an hour or two of the city.
No car needed for work and stuff around town - nice to have but not essential for skiing and hiking though
Don't get a car, parking will cost more than car payment.
There's always Turo for easy car renting
I've found boring old national rental car to be cheaper and more reliable
Didnt have a car for the first year. Lived in Seattle, worked in Redmond. Public transport is pretty good.
I just moved to Seattle (on cap hill) and public transit has been more than enough for my needs. I've only needed to use a car once to go hiking
If you're staying in/around Seattle or in Redmond/Bellevue there's not much need for a car. If you want to frequent areas outside of that then you need to calculate the costs and hassle of it.
You don't need a car to live in the city and I strongly advise you plan on living in a neighborhood where you do NOT drive to work. Cost and hassle of parking is insane during work hours. I have a car in Seattle and use it a lot, but didn't notice the need for one when I didn't. This indicates to me that a car opens a lot of opportunities for exploring and you will use it, but you also won't be horribly inconvenienced without one.
I’ve lived in Seattle for 10 years and formerly worked for Microsoft. I haven’t had a car for any of that time and it’s been pretty easy, but I don’t do much outdoorsy stuff and I live in a dense neighborhood. If you do outdoorsy stuff a car is virtually required, and if you don’t live in a dense neighborhood a car will make your life much easier.

I didn't have a car my first year living in Seattle and was fine. Between public transportation, shuttles, vanpools, Uber/Lyft, Car2Go, Zipcar, there are tons of ways to get to work and around the city.
How far from Amazon did you live? I'm just starting to look into apartments but stuff nearby seems crazy expensive.
I lived in Ballard.
