do yall have respect for ppl who didnt study cs , engineering, math, data science, etc.
Lol, Engineering FTW! But in all honesty, I don't think it's about respect, it's about taking people outside of your major seriously in matters related to what you majored in. It's like I talk about art and have a criticizing unorthodox opinion about certain artists and be taken seriously by them.
Society needs many roles to function. We’d all be fucked if everyone was programming
I didnt study anything. How would you judge me?
Yes? You need diversity in skillsets to have a functioning society.
I've met very few engineers who I would trust to run a business or speak to customers. Sure they can do it, they'll just be terrible at it. It takes all kinds to run a successful business. Additionally, non-stem majors are way more fun to have as friends. I'll slap someone if they talk about kubernetes during fun time.
Yeah, it's soooo hard to learn to be a customer support operator, it's just as hard as solving differential equations and some typing on a keyboard hurr durr /s This is why people don't respect your mayor, and those people are not 'fun' around you, because they find you un-intelligent and boring, they are probably rolling their eyes and every other thing you say.
Smart people understand that the world is shades of grey. People like you see everything as right or wrong. This is the biggest problem with engineers (the second biggest being zero EQ) Also, why go after the lowest of the non-STEM ranks? Why aren't you critical of the VP of Sales? Or the Partnerships Manager? Or the UX people? Or the Product Managers? Oh.... that because you dont know what to build with out them. You solve technical problems. They solve your customer's problems.
No seeds, no stems, no sticks
Lol this is the most tech-bro post I have ever seen. Investment bankers, doctors, sales and lawyers make just as much money and typically have better EQ than software guys. I bet that you also feel jealous that athletes make more money without going through the engineering ringer
I think in terms of WLB and $/hr worked, SWE’s have it the best though I’m sure the people making 600-700k TC have very hectic schedules.
>Investment bankers, doctors and lawyers All government protected professions, engineering isn't and big companies are constantly trying to suppress their wages by importing h1bs etc. Imagine where engineers would be if they had the same protections as a lawyer for example they would be making 500k-600k out of college easily at an average company. > sales works 10 hours a day to meet their constantly increasing 'target' >have better EQ lower IQ though, as obviously indicated by your use of the word 'better' in that phrase. >I bet that you also feel jealous that athletes make more money top 0.01% of engineers are billionaires top 0.01% of grugball players make what? 20 mil per year?
I’m glad to see good, rounded opinions here. We need lots of majors for society to function
Just wow
I hardly respect CS majors TBH. Engineering >>>>> CS
Do I hear a cry of an engineering graduate with less than a 100K TC?
I'm a SWE getting a masters in CS so it's not that I don't respect the field, it's just that CS at most schools is easy and it's a joke compared to more difficult disciplines.
