Looks like the tech bubble is bursting. High valuation stocks have already floored and cont to go down.

Netflix and FB already cracking.

  • The big companies trying to get/retain talent…they will be the last to layoff and I’ll give you a few reasons why.

    1. Tons of cash in the bank
    2. Can they really afford to take their foot off the gas?
    3. Most big company roadmaps are YEARS in advance
    4. It’s hard enough to build a good reputation for people to want to work there, layoffs would make your recruiting a kryptonite barnyard fire
    5. If you aren’t growing, you’re dying

I’m sure there are others I’m not thinking about, but for the big boys who’ve got a lot of $$$…it’s the last thing they should be thinking of doing. If anything, it’s a talent grab for all of the startups and non-profitable companies that can’t keep their people or pay them enough during tough times.

I get that. It's just that if they did it in 09, they can do it in next crisis. I am just countering your claim

Even the mega caps have to layoff to please the wall street.

Moreover, unless they are already pipping every year, there are at least 5-10% of dead weight under performers in the company. When everyone is doing layoffs, it is the perfect excuse to get rid of the dead weights.

Hiring freezes happen all the time, then hiring commences. Layoffs are a completely different matter, one which I’d assume most FAANG are insulated from for the foreseeable future. Startups and zombie companies go first, then mid-cap, if you see mega cap laying people off, we’re all fucked

Banks do hiring freezes all the time but layoffs are not common unless economy is bad

Meta is full of cash rn. At the worst case I expect a lot of reorgs with hiring freeze

  • Lol stocks doesn't reflect the standing of a company. MS was in a bad shape for years until 2016 when they started their cloud business
