Just wondering if anybody is working as a contractor that is pulling in 1,500 pet day, or if anybody makes 400k total comp. I'm thinking maybe I should leave Bloomberg and go for a position like that. thanks
Yes
thanks! am gonna start practicing problems now...
You can, but they aren't as common as everyone here says. You have to be one of the best of the best.
Fuck! I am a top performer Senior at MSFT making ~$260k :/
And now you understand why the other top performers around you have all been going elsewhere eventually
Leaving is tough when you are having a considerable impact. I received Amazon SDE3 offer last year ($290k), but considering the benefits/perks of MSFT I couldn't justify the move. At $400k, I could easily see myself leaving :/
This is director and above pay
Read the question. Yes lots of consultants make $200/hr. The reason you are paid higher than a FTE is because you don't get the additional benefits of being a FTE including RSU, ESPP, healthcare, PTO, etc.
Sounds like too much stress only to live in a high COL area and pay too much in taxes. #restandvest
The question is regarding contractor work. Not FTEs. Yes I know one guy. Earns bank. Lives all over the world since all the work is essentially remote. Not a family man's situation though. And don't kid yourself with these claims of easily pulling in 400k per year as FTE for the FANGs. It's possible now because gravy is flowing. Not going to be the case when the market turns. Better get used to your base salary when that happens.
Lots do yes. That's within the norm for senior level at top companies (G/FB/Uber/AirBnB/etc) after a few years of refreshes pile up. Edit: not contractors, missed that.
400k a year is not "within the norm" for senior at those companies.
It is. It just takes a few years of refreshers and the stock pileup gets you there. I just interviewed around at all of the places I listed as a senior dev.
