Is it better to consider higher TC at non-FAANG vs work at non-FAANG for lower TC with better future prospects? It's implied that FAANG on your resume only enhances your future career prospects, is that always true?

If there’s a non-faang beating faang TC, then the non-faang is secure in its financing and definitely have a overly optimistic outlook for the future.. an outlook they’re putting their $ on.. I’d say that’s an extremely positive sign vs a retirement FAANG company

True. The first step in FAANG is often lowballed. Sometimes it may be worth it to get the name on the resume.. but if you do so, make sure you leave in 2 years or else they’ll keep underpaying you forever. No one who started lower is caught up via internal refreshers.. ever

I have less YOE and would give up some tc to have FAANG on my resume. Will open doors for sure. At 10+ YOE it’s probably less relevant especially if you are a demonstrable expert in your field.

not too sound cocky, but both companies I was referred, so I suppose I am. I wasn't coming in as a generalist, I brought a level of expertise. But the circumstances were unique (at least to this time) and I doubt they'll repeat again. It's not the last time to get FAANG, but I speculate at some point in the future everyone is going to do some stint at a FAANG.

Lots of faang folks on blind. Your top answer will likely be go to faang. Confirmation bias

  • At faang. Regret my decision and now moving to a non faang for higher pay. Faang is good if you get a sweet deal

How much higher, and what non-FAANG exactly. If it's like 50k more at a somewhat but not quite well known company like idk, Rubrik, why would you go to FAANG?

It's a very broad question. It can make sense to sacrifice current TC for future TC.

Hypothetical, lets say any amount for you to consider not FAANG. 30-40k if that helps, because FAANG may offer refreshers and after 4 years could be higher (maybe not), but also your career has gone no where.
