Does Google consider current TC at all when making an offer? Or do they give you the default lowball offer for your level even if it's a lot lower than your current TC? #google #facebook #amazon
IIRC policy is to not consider current compensation and only work based off of competing offers. Might be some leeway if they really want you though.
I wouldn't tell them.
Not really. Google gave me barely more than what I was making at walmart and I still accepted it. They dont have to offer super high salaries cause they know people are gonna accept anyway
Current TC? Yoe?
They do, their comp team isn’t idiot, they have data points for candidates from different companies.
When I interviewed, the recruiter stated in the first call that they wouldn't consider current compensation.
Think about it. They want to give you a reason to move without paying too much. If you explain to the recruiter that it doesn’t make any sense to you to move for less than $XYZ and you really mean it then they will beat your current compensation if they really want you. Unless you are stuck with a tough recruiter who makes up their own rules and won’t help seal the deal
That makes sense to me. But I think I've seen a blind post here and there (including the Amazon guy in this thread) saying they only look at competing offers
I doubt there is an official policy. Reasoning around this “policy” is that they assume the candidate is leaving anyway or hitting the cliff next year. My experience with Google is that I took a screenshot of my TC page and sent it to the recruiter and told her that I am moving primarily for money so this screenshot should give a clear picture of where we should start. Recruiter didn’t object to that but I ended up having multiple competing offers higher than my TC In short you need to make them feel that you still don’t have enough incentive to move. Google especially tries to lowball by selling the Google brand
