Hi blinders Currently on h1b. Have one shot left. Have an offer from LinkedIn. I wanted to know what happens if I don't get h1b. The recruiter told me they will move me to India and then apply for L1. How true is that? Does anyone know for sure if LinkedIn applies for L1? How common/uncommon is it? Offered tc 250k Tc 180k YoE 2 Thanks #engineering #software #swe #h1b #l1 #linkedin #faang #microsoft
You need to work in India for at least 2 years to be eligible for L1 (company rules, not US immigration requirement)
Even if you have worked in the US?
No clue. This is the general guideline.
No Canada? Also offer seems low for LinkedIn Sr SWE
Can you split TC ? What location ?
You can also be moved to Canada (policy changed this year) and after 15-18 months can be bought back on L1 This only applies if you have worked for at-least 12 months at LinkedIn
I have 2 attempts on h1b left and very worried about this. My recruiter did not tell me any official policy regarding this. He told mostly I should get selected and should not worry about this from right now. If not, they will review the best available options at that time. Do you know how many folks were offered the Canada option this year? I will almost be at LinkedIn for 20 months before I run into this situation if at all. I fear getting terminated at the worst.
I don’t think recruiter knows this policy change. Management has learned a lesson this time so they have changed the policy for good. Almost 30 people are going to Canada this year. Only catch is you need to be working for at-least 12 months so don’t worry much. However, moving to Canada comes with a big pay cut which is almost 40% net. in base.
I know we do L-1 visas, one of my former team mates came from India on an L-1 visa. But idk about this situation where they move you to India and bring you back. I think I would try to get that in writing and also confirm with the hiring manger.
