As the title say, after work I just feel totally drained both physically and mentally. After a day of meeting and working behind a computer I just have nothing left in the tank when I get home. I’ve tried switching up my routine to working out on the morning as well as eating better food and going for walks mid-day but nothing seems to offset the end-of-workday fatigue. Anyone else experience this? 3 YoE TC $180k
I have. I experienced it less when I was at a startup. I’m not saying that’s a solution.
What strategies did you use to have more energy after work?
I think being energized by the work I was doing and the people I was around was a great contributor to less fatigue. There was a breaking point where that feeling was lost, and I’ve been searching for it at different places since. I think that feeling is not unique to tech, white collar workers of all stripes deal with it. A good antidote that worked for my parents is compartmentalization. Your job is your job, your home is home. Don’t bring burdens from one into the other. Of course, I can’t preach, I’m still working on it myself.
Yes, and a couple of things -- 1) you should feel drained after a full day working hard - your brain is working and focusing and interacting with people - that takes work 2) you don't state age, gender, family status, or commute info. All of these impact energy. I've got 2 little ones at home and I'm always tired -- I've really tried to focus on exercising harder, eating much better, and managing alcohol/coffee. Make sure you're in a job you enjoy and consider all the above things. Add info to dive in deeper.
Go workout after work. Just a quick 10 minute sprint to get all the blood rushing will take out the tiredness. It's a mental thing. You'll have soo much energy after this session that you feel like doing other things.
Also - try to do little workouts during the day - pushups, pull-ups, mini bootcamp. Also - east less during the day -- smaller lunch. Watch your caffeine...
Daily workout of at least 30 mins will help you a lot. Also try to do something new on the weekend. Anything new will do .....cooking new dish ...or walk/bike new area...paint....meet new people.
Cut the commute
I walk 15min to work lol
Then run in 7 minutes!!
honestly I think a lot of this is in your head. I'm physically and mentally drained after work unless my friend from out of state is visiting and when she's in town I'm up for anything after work. Just a matter of motivation ;-)
