I work at a non-faang but almost faang company, I just joined after working at a very informal startup with a “take what you need” policy. (AKA dont ever take vacation or everyone will treat you like garbage the few days after you get back) Not gonna say which company im at to save face but basically the entire company, at least in our office took two weeks off. Everyone just marks OOO on their calendars. I asked where I report taking days off and they said they dont. But in my contract it specifically says Im allowed 21 days of PTO. But my whole team just used 10 without saying anything. Is that like with every company, or how does your PTO work? TC: 210k YOE: 1.5
Mark on calendar and often skip adding to Workday. We have unlimited.
We just sent a calendar invite to manager.
Wtf is an almost-faang company?
Its almost faang, but not quite faang
Unicorn maybe?
My company advertised “unlimited” PTO like any other startup. But, they have a policy where it is CAPPED at 2 weeks mark per year. You are also required to put the PTO days in the HRIS System so they can track how many days you’ve taken. Its BS.
In other words: “2 weeks vacation, it doesn’t accrue and we won’t pay you for your balance when you leave” Sounds like a good company to abandon for something better.
Is that even legal?
Yes
Had to mark down even a mere minute in my org if was during standard work hours.
I definitely have to (as well as everyone I know at Apple). But I knew plenty of people who didn’t officially take sick days when calling in, and I had to always remind my team to do it.
My man
Uber has had way bigger issues to care about that they didn’t than you not marking your vacation.

We have D(iscretionary, ie unlimited)TO and people just mark it in outlook or slack their team with the dates they'll be out.
