I'm curious of this because I've only been in Taiwan for 2 years and I can't find too much data on this. Levels website suggests it's about 3.5mil NTD. I'm from SF so everything is less number-wise, I know that, although the tax is less in Taiwan too. So it kind of balances out the salary difference. I found some data on levels for Nvidia and it's bonkers high (5mill+).
I did some research on that a whole ago because I wanted to know about opportunities for SWE in Taiwan. My wife is Taiwanese and I was born in Beijing but lived in Taiwan a couple years. So we were entertaining the idea of spending a few years there. Unfortunately the result is disappointing. The opportunities are rather scarce. I spoke to a friend in Taiwan who worked in a few different IT positions, apparently the pay is subpar, load is heavy, and there are rarely any interesting work. At one point he had to find a job in Phillipines. I looked at internal job postings in Amazon for Taiwan. There is a single office in Taipei and it doesn't seem to have much SWE positions. The pay is decent but wouldn't make you THAT well-off in Taipei, especially that area. I think Taiwan isn't exactly known for producing good software engineers from university. These big companies tend to open SWE offices in areas that are already hotspots for talents. For example, in Ontario Canada, there are easily five good engineering universities pumping out graduates every year. And since SWE isn't big in Taiwan, there wouldn't be any competition for talents, salary wouldn't be high, and the work would likely be secondary rather than the focus of a company. Nvidia is more of a hardware company though. But I suppose there are drivers and other frameworks to be developed, although that is a very specific field.
Thanks for the info. I agree with you. I get that sense here too. Opportunities are scarce comparatively although right now there are quite a few open job posts. I think in the last 2 years software has grown a lot in popularity, especially in the startup space. I have a few friends in some startups making 2.8mill+ at Sr SWE(L3?) level, but startups aren't for me anymore. Additionally, I think having such a dominant HW industry is rubbing off on the SW industry in terms of TC and management style, since HW is generally paid less. I applied to Amazon TW and got an offer of 2.5 mill for a L3 a few months ago. I took a lead position at another company instead for less for various other reasons.
2.5 before or after tax?
