Hackerrank is hot garbage. Their descriptions and examples aren't ambiguous, they're deceptive. If you have a question, at least in leetcode you can put in some test input and get the expected answer. In a real interview, you would just ask your interviewer. But in Hackerrank, you have no option but to take the time to write a full solution and see if tests pass or fail. Then you'll realize that you were solving the wrong thing in the first place due to a valid misunderstanding and you have to start over. I appreciate the practice for sure, but I got real shit to do. I'm not some unemployed new grad with no life. The way they define test case input is a joke as well. Just give me the actual input, not other metadata. For example, they'll give you an array, and ALSO the size of the array as a variable. Really?? You also can't always see the locked failing test input cases because the long ones get cut off in debug output. Again, making it hard to understand what they're ACTUALLY asking. I also never thought I'd say this but Hackerrank variable names are even worse than leetcode. That's really something special because leetcode is horrendous. And also, if you code in java/C#, at least leetcode figured out how to start you off inside of a class so not everything is static, and the boilerplate initialization code is hidden. /rant #hackerrank #leetcode
Do lc. Even George Hotz couldnât solve some easy questions on hackerrank lol
Hackerrank problems are more suited for programming competitions like ACM ICPC and Google Code Jam. Not very well suited for interview prep.
Absolutely agreed. Just done one. The UI on HR is even worse than LC since description are more verbose and the test inputs are confusing at; with the list size bs and the vertical listing of elements. Debugging the long test inputs were the worst.
