Based on where you work, do you feel like your employer is genuinely trying to foster a unique company culture that most employees connect with? Is this real at most tech companies or just something employers feel like they have to pretend to have? Do you see value in having a company culture?
Yes. In most cases, toxic faux-bro incel culture. But yes, culture.
When the company hasn't built a golden brand such that everyone wants to work there just because of its name, and when the company doesn't offer top-of-the-market compensation to golden-handcuff current employees.
Your elaboration of the question is different from the question asked in the subject. 1. There is culture in every company. But sometimes itâs intentionally curated, sometimes itâs just an extension of foundersâ values and behaviors. 2. Many companies do care about culture and try to cultivate certain values and behaviors. The best example here is Netflixâs culture deck https://jobs.netflix.com/culture. 3. Of course what the leaders want to set up as culture may not be whatâs forming in reality. 4. Most companies, esp. if not led by founders, probably just throw slogans around to seem to have a culture.
Company culture does exist every where but not in the sense you mean. Culture is not something positive. Itâs just a description of environment and attitudes within a firm
âCultureâ is a way for companies to hire people that are all the same while still pretending to care about diversity.
A lot of companies have deliberate culture good or bad. In amazon the 11/13/14 whatever the count of values is now were thrown around every 10 mins. My current company has a transparency culture which means even board minutes and strategic decisions are available for everyone to read. Also there is a ton of mental health support which I have not seen in other places. So yeah every company has their thing or things.
What company is that?
Wealthsimple

I don't get the empathy culture that MS is trying to build.

Are we ready to buy our forever home?
My company has a great culture. It's awesome. Everyone communicates well. We believe in building a community.
Is this a troll post or your company/team is really like that?
Your company has (or had a little less than 2 years ago) an interesting interview process. I was there for about 7 hours for an SWE position. People seemed nice. Wasn't a technical match from either side.
