Does cybersecurity experience at consulting firms hold any weight for FANG/tech companies? It seems like many of the potential exit ops I see from cyber consulting lead to non-technical roles like compliance/governance or cloud/cyber consulting roles at product companies. If my goal is to get into a technical cyber role (that involves coding for example) at a tech company should I avoid consulting firms or does it just depend? #cybersecurity #security #careers Edit: I am also wondering if Accenture/Big 4 to FireEye or Crowdstrike is a realistic transition
Yes, it does. Tens of my ex colleagues (some of whom are my close friends) have moved from security consulting to tech (plug in your fancy FANG acronym here) companies as appsec / prodsec / cloudsec engineers
Ex colleagues at big 4 consulting?
I am also wondering if Accenture/Big 4 to FireEye or Crowdstrike is a realistic transition
I've seen plenty of people move to fang from those companies - so yes if you can get past the interview you are good enough. Never short sell yourself just because you're not at a sexy company.
I meant accenture to crowdstrike tho
Why are you asking? NASA >> consulting firms in prestige. There are ex-NASAs at FB product security team, why going to consulting firms just to get into FAANG? Also consider AWS, bunch of ex-NASAs (L5 - L8) there. I'm ex-NASA intern.
I was also an intern. How do you know this.
No, I didn’t know :-)
I have just started my career in IAM segment of cyber security. I would also like to know if I continue in this domain, will i get an opportunity to work with FAANG?
Never

What is cyber experience? Back in my day cyber was sexting on msn chat.
Changed it to cybersecurity 🤷♂️
It holds plenty of weight. Despite cyber security being about keeping things secured, it's usually one of the most relaxed job families out there. As long as you can show you know your stuff, you're gold. Take Amazon for example. I don't know if you know YTcracker. Used to hack everything, spam. Got arrested, raps about hacking. He's a senior security engineer here.
