Does this uber offer seem good enough?

I recently got this offer from uber atg: Base: 175k Cash Bonus: ~21k Equity refresh: ~100k New hire grant RSU: ~14k Relocation: ~10k I am NOT a software engineer. I'm a system safety engineer with 6 YOE and masters. Is this a good offer?

You should try to increase the equity if u can. Also ask for shares. Not the dollar worth if you can. Do you have competing offers?

I have a competon offer from Riccardo but it's fairly low since they don't have any rsu. TC ~ 180k

Seems low, especially on rsu side

Continental rFtb44 OP Mar 17, 2019

Tried pushing for 16k but failed.

So 14000*42 seems low to you for a non swe? Thats $588k for 4 years, geez

I’m eng and got 16k rsu. PhD + 6 YOE. Did you negotiate with the recruiter? Btw, is that l5a?

Continental rFtb44 OP Mar 17, 2019

I did... but negotiations failed. Btw.. what is l5a?

Facebook xxkw86 Mar 17, 2019

That’s the level. Could you share more details about the negotiation?

That is standard 5a offer for SWE never heard of safety engineer

Uber tud3i Mar 17, 2019

I got 18.5k rsu 4 years ago, SWE, 6 yoe back then, if you ask if it is fair

Facebook xxkw86 Mar 17, 2019

In 2014? I thought they should give way more than that number.

Uber tud3i Mar 17, 2019

4 years ago is 2015

Uber bobaboi Mar 17, 2019

Quite solid for L5

What exactly does a safety engineer do? Like what kind of stuff do you work on

Salary is good

For a systems safety eng, this is an amazing offer. Stfu and take it and start working your ass off. You have no biz comparing with software eng and data scientist guys since the technical depth and skill levels needed are not comparable. I can train a sw eng guy to be good in safety in a few weeks but not the other way around. Sorry but it's absolutely true. I was a systems safety guy in multiple industry and transitioned out so I know what I'm talking about.

Continental rFtb44 OP Mar 18, 2019

Thanks man.. I always knew i should feel inferior to the swe but just never knew why! Thanks for explaining... btw how is training sw eng to be good in safety for a few weeks going for uber so far? Also, Troll much?

Can you explain the equity refresh? Are they quoting you an annual estimated amount of RSUs ($, not units)? Is this contingent on performance multipliers? In the past, before the bonus restructuring they quoted high numbers that almost no one ever got.
