I’ve heard people say to be in the office before your manager and out after, but how true is that really? Does anyone care where or when you do your work as long as it’s done in a timely manner and at a high quality?
A few times, not a big deal. If it’s every day, and becomes a pattern, it’s an issue. Teams work because people are here together at the same time. Finance and consulting are NOT tech. You need to sit down together and hash out ideas. I am a big believer in flexibility but not 100% remote working unless necessary.
My boss does not but my senior associate does..lol
Fairly flexible now, but I tend to stay in the office until my managers are gone for the day, mainly out of habit. When I was in the client facing role, it mattered more that we made effort to show face to the client when working on the engagement. But at other times when we weren't working on a specific engagement, boss didn't really care where/when I worked. Of course, this varies across the bosses - I've also had bosses that did not like me coming in 10 min past 9 (regardless of how long I stayed at the end of the day).
Depends on the boss. Most folks are pretty good about accommodating reasonable requests to be flexible; however, there are certainly people that try and abuse working remotely and don't make reasonable requests. If you have an important client meeting or are working with a team and have a tight deadline then you need to be onsite to work efficiently and effectively. I believe that it is really situation dependent on where and when work gets done. However, there are some old school folks that always believe you need to put in face time.
Most of my managers are quite flexible unless the client requires me to be onsite

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

My boss found out I’m Jewish 😱 what do I do.
Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door - that way Lumbergh can't see me, heh - after that I sorta space out for an hour. I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.
