So hard being a women in tech industry
My company is rolling out mobile device management while also not offering work devices for anyone who opts out, not even for sales or other departments who rely heavily on a mobile device. This seems pretty short-sighted to me, given the nature of privacy concerns in big tech, but I’m curious if it is the same or different at other larger tech corporations?
It was simple for me. I don’t use my personal phone for work ever. If they want me to be on call they need to provide the device. That’s been my approach to three employers so far and no problems yet.
I prefer owning my phone but work gets to pay for phone service and run inside of an air watch container. Works for me.
Case by case basis here. But if the MDM solution is set up correctly from the get go, you should have no "privacy" concerns. Such as using Airwatch; it partitions off the work and personal profiles (at least on android) and does not have cross-functionality and communication between them and is encrypted. You can nuke the work profile without disturbing your personal data.
Yes, I do trust there is a correct and safe way to do it, but I do not trust my company to do it correctly, haha. Or be transparent about it. So I and others will likely be opting out.
What are the repurcussions if you opt out and miss important emails/communications because they didnt provide you a corp device?
