Because I see them often. How to spot a fake: not much to say, five stars even for things that the while company dislikes, corporate buzzwords used unironically, and (most of all) a "Cons" section which blames the worker for anything bad ("not for people who aren't driven", "might be tough if you aren't on board with ABC Inc.'s philosophy"). My employer was at 1.7 in the USA, 2.6 worldwide, but shot up to 2.4 in the US thanks to some dubious reviews. As far as I know there are no fake shill salary reports, so anyone can see that we pay most people under USD 3500 per month at the Japanese home office. I wonder if they will start making up salaries to hide that reality. Obligatory: TC 43k (4.6M JPY), YoE 20
“just keep doing what you’ve been doing!”
Ooh, I forgot about that one! That's gold!
There was a WSJ article about this earlier this week. https://www.wsj.com/articles/companies-manipulate-glassdoor-by-inflating-rankings-and-pressuring-employees-11548171977
Standard procedure at SpaceX. Image is everything.
Previous employer told people to post positive reviews because the negative reviews were hurting ability to hire.
Nokia doesn't care cause they aren't really hiring. If anything they will be happy if more people leave.
HR can also post reviews. I once emailed Glassdoor about this and they said it was totally allowed.
Glassdoor is a joke. It's become another marketing tool for HR departments. Blind is probably your best bet for learning the truth about a company.
I work in Japan and was on the Japanese Blind for a while a year ago; the forum sort of died. I'm glad this one is going strong.
Am I a joke to you ?
Dataminr asks its new employees (first day on the job) to write a Glassdoor review. It's impossible for anyone to know what it's like working there at that point. Later when you try to post a real review or salary, it just never appears and is in pending purgatory. Glassdoor can be bought and manipulated.
Instead of changing and organically making reviews better (which is doable), these companies would rather lie and then eventually the people they hire will write more bad reviews. Doesn’t make any sense.
I don’t understand how the review industry exists anymore. Almost everyone knows the data is tainted. I wouldn’t ever go to Glassdoor for a real opinion, I’d network and ask an insider.
If you don't know any insiders, review sites are priceless. I look for the long detailed reviews where the writer clearly has strong, well thought out opinions.
Amazon leadership straight up asked seniors to add 5 star reviews online because we were losing top talent to Google and Facebook lol
If there's one company that you would expect to see that at, it would have to be Amazon! :) My company is the Japanese equivalent of Amazon and I know just how you all feel.
